The local waters are still the favorite area of German canoeists. Between the Baltic Sea coast and the Alps, there is a multitude of paddled rivers, lakes and canals of different characters. The German River Hiking Book gives an overview of the most important German paddling waters. It records those rivers or river sections that can be navigated for at least 15 km all year round. The spectrum ranges from the Mecklenburg Lake District to the great long-distance hiking rivers Elbe, Weser, Rhine and Danube to wild rivers such as Isar, Loisach and Enz. Wandering rivers such as Lahn, Sieg and Unstrut should not be missing. The German river hiking book, also known as the “canoeist's bible”, is the standard work for canoe tours in Germany. It follows the tried and tested concept of the water guides of the German Canoe Association with a total circulation of more than 300,000 copies: Without extensive subjective descriptions, it gives a systematic overview of around 200 of the most interesting canoeing waters in Germany. The character of the water and its difficulties, gradients and possible usage regulations are described. Favorable entry and exit points, weirs, danger spots, but also rest and overnight options are listed along a precise kilometer. There is a map section that contains 31 four-color map sections for location allocation. In the currently available 27th edition, numerous changes have been entered again, which have resulted, for example, from structural changes or changed traffic regulations. Dozens of volunteers from the ranks of the German Canoe Association have contributed to making this work the most comprehensive and accurate canoe book about Germany.
